Actually, taking your actions is nowhere near as hard as deciding what action to take. Place workers, play cards, spend resources. There are 6 different actions you can take on your turn and they all make sense, especially if you’ve been playing modern games for a while. While it may seem like there is a lot going in The Lost Ruins of Arnak, and there is, it’s not a hard game to learn. Digging for new artifact sites are just one of the strategic paths you can take. The game ends after 5 rounds and players total up their points (from 6 different sources) and the player with the most points wins. There is a cleanup phase and then the next round begins. Turns will go by in this manner until all players have passed. Once you have finished your action, the next player goes. You will also earn end game VPs for where you’re two tokens end up. Each movement of the token will earn you resources or other in-game bonuses. Your magnifying glass must always be advanced first, but you also have a journal token that can always be moved up to the level of your magnifying glass (but never pass it). Research: There is a large research track that requires you to spend resources to advance your two tokens.Gear cards are free to play, but artifact cards require you to spend a tablet resource. These usually grant you resources or special abilities. Play a card: Cards can be played for their actions.Gear cards are placed on the bottom of your draw deck, while artifact cards are immediately activated and placed into your play area. Buy a card: You can buy a new gear card with coins, or an artifact card with time tokens.Defeated guardians earn you 5 vps and a one-time use power. Overcome a guardian: Spend matching resources to defeat the guardian.A guardian is also placed there and If the guardian is still there when you recover your worker, you gain a fear card. You also immediately earn the bonus from the new site. This will earn you an artifact (VPs and a bonus resource) and allow you to place a new dig site there. Discover a new site: By spending 3 time tokens (or 6 for the deeper sites) and the appropriate travel symbol, you can explore a new site.Traveling to the site requires you to spend a card with the matching travel symbol. Dig at a site: You can send one of your two workers to an explored site to collect resources. Each card you buy will provide resources or a special ability.
